Research

Our Pets

I know that many of you have pets at home! Here is an opportunity to do a mini research on the animals which share your home.

Lesson: Where I'm at, on the map

Research your connection to where you're at in the world by creating a visual story and displaying it in a way that is meaningful to you.  Check out my lesson and I hope you get inspired to show where you're at on the map.

Family Tree Research

If you have a brother or sister in Pohutukawa, you might already know a bit about family tree research. This week you are invited to make your own family tree. You can use a template like these ones, or make up your own way to present your family. There might be drawings or photos involved. You may include anybody you feel is 'family', including cousins, step-family, and even pets. The most interesting thing in a family tree are the people's stories. Have fun! We look forward to seeing a photo of your finished work.

Country Research

While we're in Lockdown, we can't go on holiday anywhere! The next best thing is to pretend that you are going on holiday. Where would you like to go? What can you see and do there? What language will you speak, and what food can you try there? Make a poster or booklet about your dream holiday destination. Here is the Country Research card from our classroom to get you started:

Animal Research

I know that many of you like doing animal researches. Lockdown time is custom-made for research! You can use the internet to find amazing facts about almost any animal, or you can use books you have at home. Or phone someone who might know a lot about this animal, and interview them! To present your research, you could ask someone to film your presentation, and then bring the film to school on a USB stick to show everyone once we're back. Or you could use a programme like OneNote or PowerPoint to make a presentation which you can bring to school and share.

Here's the Advanced Animal Research card from our classroom to get you started:

Make an Island

As a follow-up of all the landformations work we've been doing, create your own island showing all the landformations. You could add other things as well, such as a shipwreck cove, waterfall, forest... use your imagination!

Your second step is to think about you, living on your island. Where will you live? How will you meet your fundamental needs for food, clothing and shelter?

Lastly, give your island a name, and send a photo to Mireille.
