Cooking at Home

This week for Practical Life activities, we would like to know what you do for food preparation at home.


Here are some more ideas to get you going:
  • Help with dinner
  • Make your own breakfast or lunch
  • Do some baking
  • Prepare a picnic and invite your family, and ask each to bring a favourite toy as well
  • Make a salad or a fruit salad
  • Get ideas in a cookbook

When choosing practical life activities, those that are authentic and connect the child to real life are most effective. They help the child to coordinate his or her movements, encourage independence and aid in adjusting to the environment as well as feeling a sense of belonging and pride within their environment. 





Some practical life activities include:

Sweep
Help vacuum
Help prepare meals and snacks 
Set and clear table
Help wash dishes
Feed pets
Clean mirrors and windows 
Make the bed
Sort clothes, hang to dry, help fold
Tend to the garden
Tidy their room
Polishing silver
Wiping the table before and after meals
Take out the rubbish and recycling
Wipe down bathroom sinks and baths/showers
Prepare small family meals (parent staying in kitchen for help and supervision)
Mop and vacuum more thoroughly
Dust thoroughly 
Help with lawn care
